The Italian company We Build won a contract worth approximately 20 billion riyals to build dams in order to form an artificial lake in the heart of the Trogena project managed by NEOM.
It is planned to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games in the mountain ski resort in the northwest of the Kingdom.
The project's main dam is 145 meters high and extends to 475 meters at its highest point. It is planned to be built using approximately 2.7 million cubic meters of compressed concrete.
Two additional, smaller dams will also be constructed, the first 38 meters high and 700 meters long, and the second 65 meters high and 490 meters long. These two dams will be connected to the neighboring Lake Village via an underwater tunnel, and construction work will also include foundations for a building that will contain a hotel.
The Trogena project will become a distinctive ski destination for three months every year, extending over an area of 60 square kilometers. This project is expected to attract about 700,000 visitors annually by 2030.
